Whatever your business model you need an internet presence and before WordPress that meant using a standard HTML website. It also meant a huge expense if you hired a design team or a huge learning curve if you did not.
WordPress takes only a few minutes to install and can be learned as you go.
The other feature is that like other blogs you can create pages or posts. A post has date and a category, a page has neither so blog tradition has been that pages are only for unchanging info like an About page or a contact page.
All the content of the blog went into posts!
But over the last few years a realisation is spreading that the WordPress pages that were overlooked are perfectly suited to evergreen content just as much as HTML pages are.

You need images. Yes there are some diehard bloggers who don’t use ’em but that’s not you! You will probably need a graphics header and you will need a photo or 2 in nearly every post. And you will ahve to be able to tweak, crop and adapt these images. You don’t need to be a genius or have expensive software but you do need some basic tuition on handling graphical images in your blog.
